The Lafayette Jackson Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to the memory and legacy of our beloved orchestra member, Lafayette Jackson, who passed away in the fall of 2005.
The scholarship offers several unique opportunities for high school students in the Northern Virginia community. Students must play the string bass or the cello.
Each year, we award scholarships to two (2) eligible students. The two scholarship recipients will receive (1) an opportunity to play for one academic year in the bass or cello section of the NOVA-Annandale Symphony Orchestra, (2) two free college credits for their two semesters of participation in the orchestra (all credits are fully transferable), and (3) a $250 per student cash award to be used for future academic pursuits.
NOTE: Application deadline is May 5, 2017. Auditions and interviews will be conducted on May 15, 2017 (location and time will be emailed). Awardees will be notified approximately two weeks following review of all applications. Initial rehearsals will begin in late August or early September 2017.
