Lafayette Jackson Memorial Scholarship
The Lafayette Jackson Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to the memory and legacy of a beloved member of our symphony, Lafayette Jackson, who passed away in 2005.
This scholarship offers opportunities for high school students in Northern Virginia. To be eligible, applicants must play string bass or cello at a level sufficient to participate in the NOVA-Annandale Symphony Orchestra. Each year, we award scholarships to two students.
Each recipient will receive:
- The opportunity to play in the bass or cello section of the NOVA-Annandale Symphony Orchestra
- Tuition reimbursement for two music course credits at NVCC.
- A $250 cash award to be used for future academic pursuits.
The tuition reimbursement is applicable only for MUS 148 or MUS 248, one each semester, for two consecutive semesters, beginning in the fall of the year the scholarship is awarded.
The application deadline is TBD 2018. Auditions and interviews will be conducted on TBD in 2018 (the location and time will be communicated via email). We will notify scholarship winners approximately two weeks following our review of all applications. NOVA-Annandale Symphony Orchestra rehearsals begin in late August or early September of 2018.
